A Place to Start

If you’ve just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes (GDM), you don’t need another long list of things to worry about right now. You're looking for information, support, and a place to start.

A GDM diagnosis can turn pregnancy into a crash course in blood glucose, carbohydrates, food, exercise, monitoring, appointments, and medical terminology, often with very little explanation of how you’re actually supposed to put all of that together.

When you start searching for answers on your own, it somehow becomes even more confusing.

Can I trust this information? Are carbohydrates bad? Should I avoid fruit? What does a “good” meal actually look like? Why did my blood sugar go up after something that seemed healthy? What happens if I don’t have an appointment with my care team for several days or weeks?

These are the type of questions that led me to create Diabetes & Pregnancy.

Bridging the gap between diagnosis and knowing what to do next

Over the years, I’ve seen how much can happen in the time between receiving the diagnosis of gestational diabetes and finally getting the education and support you need to feel oriented to move forward.

Sometimes that gap is only a few days. Unfortunately, it can sometimes be much longer.

In the meantime, you’re still pregnant and you still need to eat. You’re still making decisions from sun up to bedtime, every day. And you're trying to make sense of instructions that feel incomplete, contradictory, or just very unfamiliar, all while you wait for clarification and direction.

Diabetes & Pregnancy is a growing collection of resources designed to help make that space a little easier to navigate.

My goal is to offer thoughtful, evidence-based information that helps you understand the why behind recommendations, ask better questions, and find practical ways to apply what you’re learning in your own life, all while building confidence and maintaining peace of mind.

The education and support is meant to be a complement to the care from your medical team, bridging the gap between appointments. It's the foundation you need to feel empowered to make choices about your diabetes management, bridging the gap between what you've been told and how to make it work for you.

I am excited to share that soon you can look out for my upcoming book, Eating Confidently with Gestational Diabetes, expected in early 2027. Other resources are in development, and whatever form they take, they'll be designed to be a resource that helps answer the questions you didn’t know you needed to ask, along with the ones you know all too well - the questions that keep you up at night while you wait for more information.

With behavior change-informed education and support, you can bridge the distance between "You have gestational diabetes" and the healthy, happy pregnancy journey you've been working so hard to achieve.

If you’re here because of Start Smart with Gestational Diabetes, welcome. If you’re here because you’re waiting for Eating Confidently with Gestational Diabetes, welcome. And if you simply found your way here because you have questions about diabetes in pregnancy, I hope I can help empower you in your journey.

You don’t have to figure everything out today. Let’s start with what you need to know first: that you can have a healthy pregnancy with gestational diabetes.

Pregnancy is a season, and gestational diabetes is often a particularly short one. If this season is behind you, I hope you'll keep Diabetes & Pregnancy in mind and consider sharing these resources with a friend, family member, or someone else who is navigating it now.

If you're a healthcare or pregnancy professional, I'd be grateful if you'd consider sharing these resources with the women and families you serve. The more trusted places someone can turn for empathetic, evidence-based, and practical information, the better we can help to bridge the gap for women who are trying to find their footing with GDM and move forward with confidence.
